Why Runic's free trial has no card
Runic used to ask for a card upfront, a 14-day reverse trial, meaning if you didn't cancel in time, you got charged automatically. I changed that, because I didn't like what it said about the product: it only worked if people forgot to leave.
Now, every new signup gets a genuine 14-day free trial with no card required at all. You get full access to Runic as it actually ships, and you only decide between the Founding Member plan or the Standard tier at the point you actually want to keep using it, not on day one before you've logged a single thing.
Founding Member pricing is capped at the first 50 paying members and locked for life at that rate. Once that's full, or once Runic has a public launch, new members come in on the Standard tier instead, same product, same domains, same updates.
I'd rather earn a subscription because someone actually used Runic for two weeks and wanted to keep going, not because they forgot to cancel. If that's not how it works out, nothing is owed, and nothing gets charged.
